Everything relating
to a specific place in the United Kingdom has been colour coded
to make searching easier. There is a guide on the wall and colour codes
are shown in the catalogue too. |

To ensure all place
names are included references have been added from any main entry covering
multiple places. References are in italics. |

The catalogue tells
you whether the item is a book, a booklet, a magazine, a paper copy, kept
in a loose leaf binder, microfiche or film, cd-rom
or floppy disc so that you know where to find it. It also tells
you how many copies are held. |

The example below shows that there is a full set of the York Marriage Index on microfiche, three different volumes in book format and two full copies on cd-rom. The microfiche and the cd-rom boxes will have BLUE labels and the books will be in the BLUE section on the shelves. |
