Research Room Closing

I have been asked to write to you on behalf of ALAN POWELL our YFHS

Chairman and his message is as follows:

“It is with great regret that I have to report the closure of our YFHS

Research Room at the Raylor Centre in James Street, York.

The Society has been a tenant at the Raylor Centre for the past twenty

years.

Although the cost of renting remains reasonable – it has proved too much

of a drain on our limited resources.

Therefore, the doors of the YFHS Research Room will close for the final

time on THURSDAY NOVEMBER 20 2025 at 4pm.

However, from JANUARY 2026 and for a trial period of six-months, we will

continue to offer family history support at the following places:

Every MONDAY at THE FAMILY HISTORY ROOM at YORK CENTRAL LIBRARY, MUSEUM

STREET, YORK. YO1 7DS.

Every FRIDAY at THE BORTHWICK INSTITUTE FOR ARCHIVES at the UNIVERSITY

OF YORK. YO10 5DD.

Further information including dates and times will be

announced in due course.

I wish all our members the compliments of the season and thank you for

your continued support.

Alan”
