Did you know that water used to be transported from the river to houses and street standpipes in wooden pipes? Usually joined up to lead stopcocks and taps. Elm was the tree of choice as it didn’t rot. All the English elms have gone now though. ⁦⁦@BALHNews⁩

Lovely day in Selby sunshine. A quiet place to breathe and give respect to the fallen from the Boer War and subsequent wars.

Fabulous day yesterday in sunny Islington with two amazing presentations by Dr Sophie Kay and Martin McDowell on DNA and genealogy. The Federation is a superb organisation and I would urge all local and family history societies to join. ⁦@BALHNews⁩ ⁦@FederationFHS⁩
